For example, suppose you chose to say to me “imagine relaxing by the ocean”. The ocean is a common relaxing metaphor for people near the coast and the majority of my clients like it. But you might not know that I almost drowned in the ocean as a child… and later had to pull my family out of the ocean before they drowned.

In addition, the ocean and coast near my childhood home is cold and windy – and very busy.  By no means relaxing at all. So for me, the ocean metaphor would interfere with me relaxing into hypnosis. There are many, many situations and words that you might use in a script that will inadvertently trigger worry feelings in a client. And, there are many words and phrases the client would use that you wouldn’t think of.

Researching your client’s history… creating an effective symbol that’s comforting instead of trauma triggering … writing effective binds, double binds and anchors … finding a convincing line of reasoning to accept change … proving the claims that change is valuable to your client… creating motivation for the change...

Maybe for you, pre-writing client session hypnosis scripts is an activity that brings you to a halt, requiring hours of your time only to discover there was a better suggestion you could have used for your client.  Time you can never get back once you’ve spent it.  And, if your client experiences less than stellar results, you can feel like you’ve failed your client.
That can be emotionally, mentally and physically exhausting.  Or, worse yet, that might be the last time you see that client, eating into your income generating revenue plan.
